KINDERGARTEN
Fremont Park Kindergarten
For this project I designed a kindergarten for Fremont Park, just south of downtown St. Louis. My approach was guided by the desire to create an open, playful, and explorable space for kindergartners by providing them with a stimulating environment and a freedom of circulation. The project consists of four independent kindergarten classrooms and one half-height administration building. The structures are organized orthographically in conjunction with landscaping improvements to the park including a vegetable garden, soccer field, and basketball court.
Classrooms
Each classroom is designed to be overseen by an instructor and classroom assistant and operates as an independent unit. To that end, each classroom contains spaces for learning, napping, a restroom area with shower, and a kitchenette. There are no walls or doors between any of the areas except for the restroom, which allows for full visibility by the teacher of the entire space from virtually any point.
