FIGURE DRAWINGS (I)
Charcoal Figures
For these three drawings, I focused on rendering the body using quick, gestural strokes and relying on shadow and light to distinguish my figures, rather than an outline. The left image pays special attention to the spatial relationships between various figures by using long, connecting lines to denote their relative positions. The middle image exaggerates texture and light. The right image removes a clear outline, allowing the shape of the skeletal structure to be defined by its shadow.
Figures in Motion
For each of these drawings, I wanted to capture two elements of the human figure: the soft round aspect of flesh and the body in motion. To achieve my first goal, I went over the piece with an eraser to give the skin a smoother, more fluid feel, in order to imply the presence of muscles beneath the skin. To achieve the look of motion, I added extra limbs, giving the impression of change as a result of the passage of time.
