LASKEY CHARRETTE

The Laskey Charrette is a weekend-long workshop/competition held each year at Washington University for second-year architecture students. The given design challenge for Spring 2020 was to create a light modulating cement wall of eight identical units, capable of turning a corner. My design was chosen from among my team members to be built and presented, and so we set about creating molds out of foamcore and casting the cement. The result was a highly customizable brick, capable of multiple organizations depending on the desired effect. The inspiration for the unit comes from the decorative Greek meandros, realized and extended in the project to three dimensions. The primary organization accentuates the rhythm of the shape through the balanced, yet asymmetrical, corner.
