ABOUT

Pursuing architecture as a career is a way to combine my academic and artistic interests into a discipline that values not only the aesthetics of creative design, but also pays careful attention to scientific requirements and societal needs.  I am currently a rising junior in the College of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis, part of the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, where I am pursuing a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture with a secondary major in Classics.  I chose WashU specifically for the ability to have a rigorous core studio instruction in architecture from the first year onward while still being able to benefit from a broad, liberal arts education. I have always been interested in history, especially ancient history, and the Classics curriculum enables me to explore and apply what we can learn from the ancient world into our modern architectural practice. In a more abstract sense, the Classics discipline not only provides me with a historical context for art and design, but the study of ancient languages with its innate emphasis on pattern recognition is itself an architectural pursuit. Upon graduation, I intend to enroll in a Master of Architecture program, ultimately fulfilling my dream of becoming a licensed, practicing architect.
